• RAMA contributes to the new Christmas oratorium

10 string students from the Academy and conductor and Associate Professor Carsten Seyer-Hansen will participate when Aarhus Sinfonietta, Ars Nova and Concert Clemens on Saturday premiere a brand new Christmas oratorio by Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen. The Sinfonietta has commissioned the new work, based on the slogan RETHINK from Culture Capital 2017.

Agerfeldt Olesen rethinks one of Christmas's great classics: the Christmas Oratorio by J. S. Bach from 1734. With reminiscences of the classical work, Olesen creates a portrait of modern man’s view on religion, humanity and tradition.
The composer tells: "My piece becomes a sort of "dogma oratorio" where one dogma is to follow the same text that Bach has followed, both regarding the gospel and Picanders poetry. It is a new time, a new music, with freedom to break all rules, for example to use another text than the original."

The premiere will take place on Saturday 9 December at 3 pm. in Lukaskirken in Aarhus and will be repeated on Sunday in Randers and Monday in Copenhagen. Both Agerfeldt Olesen and tenor soloist Peter Lodahl are alumni from the Academy. Read more (in Danish).
