• 50,000 Euro to Simon Steen-Andersen

    On 29th of October Academy lecturer in composition, Simon Steen-Andersen, will be awarded the Mauricio Kagel Music Prize 2017 at the Philharmonie in Essen, Germany. The prize is every second year awarded to an internationally renowned artist, who likes the German-Argentinian composer Mauricio Kagel (1931-2008) works interdisciplinary with artistic experiments and new ways of exploring sound. The prize is awarded by the German "Kunststiftung NRW".

    The jury's motivation points out that "Simon Steen-Andersen is a contemporary composer in every way. His curiosity, humor, honesty and personal expression already brought his name on the international music scene, where he is both known as a clever strategist and a fearless experimenter."

    Earlier this year Steen-Andersen received Ernst von Siemens Composer Prize. In 2015 he received the Carl Prize for his Piano Concerto, and in 2014 he received the Nordic Council Music Prize for the work "Black Box Music".
