10 students and lectures from the Academy’s RMB-program (Rhythmic Music and Movement) just has returned from a study trip to Matanzas in Cuba. Here they visited the group Los Reyes del Tambor, "Kings of drums ", who had prepared a two-week intensive and really checked courses focusing on two traditional Afro-Cuban styles: Santeria (bata drums, songs and religious dances) and Palo.

The group Los Reyes has a warm connection to Aarhus and has some contacts here. Some years ago the group visited the Academy and it really was special to be in their house in Matanzas in the heat and look at the pictures of well-known faces from the Danish free school environment, associate professor Lena Gregersen tells.

"We lived on rice, beans and chicken in all forms, we have studied intensively, and some of us bought bata drums back home. We've been drinking rum and strong Cuban coffee and we enjoyed the great hospitality of our teachers and the group around them", she continues.

"No one in Cuba wants to talk policy, but the music lives on strongly and everyday" Lena Gregersen says. "We have taken a bit of it back home, and we look forward to show it at RAMA Festival in April and at JungleJam later this year."
