In May 2016 bassist Jens Mikkel Madsen made his debut from the Academy. Today he is a lecturer at the Academy. Now he gets the award JAZZNYTPRISEN 2016, which will be presented at the venue Fermaten in Herning on Thursday 6 October, where Jens Mikkel’s band I Think You're Awesome will play.

The award is presented for the fifth time by the jazz blog Jazznyt.com, which writes from the jazz world, primarily reviews, especially of Danish jazz releases. Last year the prize went to Jacob Buchanan, also a lecturer at the Academy.

In the motivation for the 2016 price jazznyt.com writes: "Jens Mikkel receives the award for his courageous and different approach to jazz. He challenges the genre with touches of indie pop and other genres. He has a special sense to let melody and atmosphere meet in the music. The collective and cooperation about the music is his focal point."
