A highlight at the Academy in 2016 will be the first performance of Bent Lorentzen's opera "Der Steppenwolf" from 1999. Lorentzen is widely recognized for his 15 operas, all of them have been performed, except Steppenwolf. The opera will be performed semi scenic in Symphony Hall in Aarhus 4 February by students from the Academy and from Southern Jutland Academy of Music and the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Both Conductor and director are lectures at the Academy in Aarhus.

The December edition of Ascolta, magazine of the Opera Friends, brings an article about the opera and its history. Previous lecturer at the Academy Erik Kaltoft has worked extensively with the piece and tells the magazine that the opera has all the ingredients a good opera must have: A main character with strong psychological tension turned into a demanding vocal party, a colorful and varied plot and a fascinating gallery of characters.

The opera is based on Herman Hesse's cult novel of the same name about Harry Haller's search for truth in a confusing and overstimulated world. Lorentzen uses music from the novel's contemporary, 1920's, in a subtly way to restore Hesse's magical theater and his play with human masks. The entrance is free. It is possible to reserve tickets - here.
