    The US-based scientific web magazine Frontiers of Human Neuroscience deals with brain research and published in February an article about a research project managed by ass. Prof. at the Academy, Bjørn Petersen, in 2012-13.

    The project studied music perception in adolescents born nearly or completely deaf, who in their childhood has got implanted a cochlear implant (CI). CI allows a certain speech understanding, but these young people need constant auditory training to keep up with their normal hearing peers.

    The results indicate that young CI users possess sufficient neural capacity to perceive certain elements of music, and that targeted singing and music training is a motivating and relevant activity and may possibly be a complement to the traditional auditory training efforts.
