Trumpeter and composer Jakob Sørensen was chosen as "New Jazz Artist of 2017" at the DPA (Danish Popular Songwriters and Composers) jazz price event Friday 13 January in DR Concert Hall, Copenhagen. In 2015 Jakob Sørensen finished as a candidate from the Academy where he studied with Jakob Buchanan.

Three finalists were selected for the final of the DPA's jazz competition for composers under 30, for the 10th time putting spotlight on emerging talents of the Danish jazz scene. Jakob Sørensen won with the piece Nomad, which the jury described as cool, melancholic and groovy at the same time.

"It was a nice surprise to hear DR Big Band's arrangement of Nomad. In their hands it got a completely different look, a different feeling," Jacob Sørensen says. In February 2015, still a student at the Academy, he published his debut album Bagland, which was named one of the year's ten best albums by the magazine JazzNyt. Read more (in Danish).
