• Luther hymns in new light

    14th of November 2016 · tags:

In remembrance of the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Reformation in 1517 The Danish Salmeduo now releases a combined book and CD with new instrumental interpretations of a number of Luther hymns. Hymns in the mother tongue were one of the important renewals by the Reformation. With the new interpretations the duo will show the timelessness of the hymns.

Saxophonist and associate Professor Christian Vuust forms one half of the duo. The second half, pianist Hans Esbjerg, is a former lecturer at the Academy. The accompanying book has perspectival texts on Luther, the music and the church by Bishop Henrik Wigh-Poulsen, journalist Kåre Gade and by Thorkil Mølle, who teaches music history and music theory at the Academy.

Book and CD release is marked with release concerts with the Danish Salmeduo in Aarhus and Copenhagen: Tuesday 15 November at 5:00 pm at the café scene in Concert Hall Aarhus, and Sunday 20 November at 7.30 pm at Vartov, Copenhagen V. Admission is free both places. Read more (in Danish).
