30 female musicians - all teachers and students at a number of music academies in the Nordic and Baltic countries - gather 5 days in Aarhus, 15 to 19 August, at "Girl Power in Jazz"-camp. The Academy is the organizer and the venue for seminars, workshops, ensemble playing and concerts.

"Diversity is one of the most important aspects in music at all," Astrid Elbek, development manager at the Academy, says. "And as long as women are under-represented in jazz and popular music it is important to focus specifically on women's musicality and what they can contribute."

At the seminars, participants will experience a "sofa-talk" with the internationally renowned bassist Ida Nielsen, who played with Prince for many years. And the American jazz singer and composer Lenora Helm Hamonds will make a presentation with the telling title: "If you can sing it, you can play it!"

In connection with the camp the audience is invited to two jam session concerts at “Gyngen” in Aarhus on Tuesday and Wednesday, and to the closing concert Thursday 18 August at 8:00 pm in the Chamber Music Hall, Concert Hall Aarhus. Everyone, regardless of gender, is welcome to the three concerts - admission is free and all are encouraged to bring instruments and join in the jam session at “Gyngen” from 8:00 pm Tuesday and from 9:00 pm Wednesday.
