Entry audition for the Master in Rhythmic Choir Conducting


You will have to pass an entry audition unless you have achieved the mark 10 or higher at a main subject exam in rhythmic choir conducting at bachelor level from a Danish/foreign music academy, university, or equivalent.

The academy will decide if the need for supplementary auditions is required in each case.

The entry audition is organized in such a way that it will give the broadest possible image of the musical background and pedagogical skills of the applicant.


Main subject exam


Main subject exam in Rhythmic Choir Conducting
The applicant demonstrates teaching skills based on 2 assignments with a special vocal ensemble consisting of 12 academy students (7 women and 5 men, may be distributed as desired).
The applicant will choose a relevant assignment and a special assignment will be sent forward a week before the audition.
No later than a week before the entry audition, the applicant will submit his/her reflections concerning planning and content of the entry audition as well as the motivation fro applying.
Copy of the teaching material must be enclosed.

 
Duration of audition: 30 minutes
Interview: 10 minutes
Evaluation: 15 minutes
Statement: 5 minutes


The Student Administration Office will allocate 60 minutes per student.

Examination


Minor subject (e.g. exemption)

 
SSB (Singing, Playing, and Movement):

The applicant will be included as a student in a tuition situation in the subject SSB. Emphasis is put on the applicant's ability to imitate shown movement patterns, sung phrases, and shown rhythmic figures. This part of the examination will take place in groups. Duration: about 30 minutes.
The Student Administration Office will allocate 30 minutes (for the entire group).
Evaluation: 10 minutes (per applicant)

Singing and piano

A.    Singing to own accompaniment on piano. In the evaluation, emphasis is put on the applicant's ability to express the textual content. Microphone must be used.


B.    Piano
1) rhythmic piano piece (no singing) of own choice

2) Secunda vista accompaniment to a melody with figuration (of same difficulty as "Yesterday", WH Songbook, p. 443) as well as playing from score a simple rhythmic choir movement.

15 minutes of preparation will be given for the secunda vista assignment.

One mark will be given based on the 7-point grading scale for items a and b1. One mark will be given based on the 7-point grading scale for item b2.
