Prof. Jim Daus Hjernøe has been working on a project called “The intelligent Choir”. For this project he has worked together with the Danish National Girls Choir. The result can be heard at the Aarhus Vocal Festival, at the concert Saturday Evening at 19:30 in The Great Hall, with VoxNorth og Eivør. And also at the girls choirs summer concert at Koncerthuset in Copenhagen the 9th of June.

Aarhus Stifsttiden had a very fine review of composition teacher Simon Sten-Andersens piece »Black Box Music« at the SPOR Festival in Aarhus the 9th of May. The piece was called a “Columbusæg”, which means something like genious.

New album with Turid Nørlund

Today the 13th of May ass. proff. in rhythmic singing and songwriting Turid Nørlund has release party on her brand new album: Curtains. The event will take place at Stardust Café, Klostergade 58 in Aarhus, 17:00-19:00.

RAMA at Aarhus Vocal Festival

RAMA will be very present at the international Aarhus Vocal Festival the 17th to 20th of May. Professor in rhythmic choir conducting, Jim Daus Hjernøe, is artistic leader and will also be in front of his choir Voxnorth at one of the two big concerts in the great hall, Saturday evening. He also will be leading some workshops, and many of his former students at the Academy will participate in some of the vocal ensembles at the festival, Postyr Project a.o.

Guitar player, composer and student at the Nomazz program Alex Jønsson has release concert to day in Holstebro at his debut album ”The Last Moose”. Tuesday there will be release concert in Copenhagen, Wednesday in Aarhus.

Also today there is a portrait of Alex in the newspaper JP Aarhus.

The wellknown jazzsite site www.allaboutjazz.com brings a very fine review of the cd ”On the road to Damascus” with Blood, Sweat, Drum + Bass Big Band and with ass.prof. Jens Christian “Chappe” Jensen from the Academy as bandleader.

4 Academy Bands at the SPOT Festival

Masterclass with trombone professor from Holland

Australian trombone player Tim Dowling came after some years in Australian orchestras to Holland becomming solo trombone player with the Residentie Orkest . His also is professor at The Royal Conservatorie in den Haag. Right now he is visiting Aarhus to give master class for the trombone students at the Academy.

Workshop with Cæcilie Trier

The student council at the Academy in Aalborg has arranged a workshop with singer, songwriter and cello player (!) Cæcilie Trier the 25-26th of April for all students at the Academy. Trier is a.o. singing and playing in Choir of Young Believers and her own project CTM. She has released two albums and was awarded the Ken Gudman Prize in 2011.

Students on tour with Italian guitar star

Two rhythmic students, Kenneth Dahl Knudsen (bas) and Daniel Sommer (drums), will be on tour in Denmark and Italy in this week with world famous Italian jazz guitar player Fabio Zeppetella. They also will participate in a recording session with him.

Zeppetella is well-known for his cooperation with Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz, Tom Harrel and others.

Debut Album from Academy band

Electro pop band Kadie Elder consists mostly by students ond former students from the Academy. The band is chosen as one out of four to represent the Academy at the SPOT Festival the 3th to 5th of May. Also the band is going to play at Roskildefestivalen this summer.

Girls choir meeting rap

The Academys Girls Choir is a part of the brand new OpeRap: ”… lige som mit liv” – a music performance where the girls a meeting young rap singers and dancers from Rap Akademiet in Aarhus in a story about the youth trying to create their own lives.

The young people have created the story by themselves with some help form professionals. The performance arranged by Den Jyske Opera will be at Godsbanen in Aarhus the 23th of April at 17:00 and 19:00 with free entrence.

Cellist studie tour to Berlin

The cello students from the Academy and their professor Henrik Brendstrup will be visiting Berlin from today and until the 21th of April. They shall play concert at the Nordic Embassy, visit concerts and follow their fellow students at Universität der Künste.

Two new releases from Academy students

”Everything seems nicer in the dark” is the first single from song writer student Nanna Schannong. It is also a part of the EP she will release at August. Nanna Schannong is one out of five students, who started at the new song writer program at the Academy in 2012. Visit her homepage – and view the video at Youtube.
